Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Must Deliver On A Long Overdue Happy Ending
After everything they have gone through, there’s one Grey’s Anatomy character who deserves to get a happy ending as soon as possible.
Grey’s Anatomy is preparing for the release of its 20th season, but it’s time it delivered on a long overdue happy ending. Medical drama is one of the most popular branches of TV, and it’s home to some of the most successful TV shows in history. Among them is Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy, which shows no signs of stopping soon even though its main character has now become a recurring one. Grey’s Anatomy has become ABC’s longest-running scripted primetime show, and it’s now ready for the release of its 20th season.
Grey’s Anatomy season 19 saw Ellen Pompeo leaving the spotlight to other characters as she had a reduced role in the series that will continue through season 20. Grey’s Anatomy season 19 had Meredith leaving Seattle and moving to Boston to research Alzheimer’s at the Fox Foundation, but that meant putting her relationship with Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) on hold. Meredith is set to return in Grey’s Anatomy season 20 but in a reduced role, but as seen in the first trailer for season 20, her love life will still be a main focus – and it’s about time she was given a happy ending.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Can Finally Give Meredith A Long Overdue Happy Ending
Meredith Grey has been through various romances, but she hasn’t found her real happy ending. For years, the focus of Grey’s Anatomy was Meredith’s roller-coaster relationship with Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Meredith and Derek met in the series’ first episode, where they slept together after meeting at a bar, but Meredith didn’t know Derek was a doctor at Seattle Grace Hospital. To make it even more awkward, Derek was still legally married to Addison Montgomery, who had cheated on him with his best friend, Dr. Mark Sloan.
After many more obstacles and tough moments in their relationship, Meredith and Derek got married and formed a family, but the show didn’t give them a happy ending. Derek Shepherd was killed in Grey’s Anatomy season 11, and Meredith’s subsequent relationships weren’t successful. Some of Meredith’s most notable relationships after Derek’s death were with Andrew DeLuca and Cormac Hayes, and at the end of season 19, she was in a relationship with Nick Marsh.
Nick and Meredith’s relationship seemed to be nearing its end when Meredith took the job in Boston and Nick stayed in Seattle, and later Meredith pretended not to hear him when he told her he loved her over the phone. Nick and Meredith reunited in Boston when Nick and others attended the Catherine Fox Awards, and all seemed to be alright between them. The trailer for Grey’s Anatomy season 20 teases Nick and Meredith will carry on with their relationship, which gives hope about Meredith finally getting her happy ending and not being dragged into drama anymore.
If Any Grey’s Anatomy Character Deserves A Happy Ending, It’s Meredith
Grey’s Anatomy isn’t exactly a happy TV show, and it hasn’t seen many happy endings, but it’s only fair that Meredith will be given one. Meredith not only went through the death of Derek, but also those of George O’Malley, her half-sister Lexie, her parents, and more, and that’s not counting all the struggles and accidents she has gone through at the hospital. After all the tragedies, obstacles, and troubles she has gone through and overcome, and after leading the show for over a decade, if there’s one Grey’s Anatomy character who deserves to get her happy ending soon, it’s Meredith Grey.
